Monroe PTA Executive Committee
President Angela Castillo

Hi! I’m Angela, and I’m excited to be serving as your PTA President. This is my third year being part of Monroe’s PTA, and I absolutely love being involved in our school community. I have two kiddos currently at Monroe—a 4th grader and a 2nd grader—and I’ll be adding a kindergartener to the mix next school year!
A few things to know about me; shopping is my guilty pleasure—Target runs are basically a hobby. I actually love Seattle’s moody weather (surprising since I once lived in sunny SoCal!). I didn’t find out the genders of any of my three kids until they were born—life’s ultimate surprise, three times over! Leggings and a sweatshirt are my go-to outfit—comfy is a lifestyle, not a choice.
Treasurer Grace Howell

Hi, I’m Grace- your tab-tracking Treasurer. I’m happily serving my third year on the PTA Executive Committee but I started as a general PTA member volunteering here and there. I love that PTA has allowed me to learn more about how Monroe works and get to know more about the teachers and staff who support our students daily.
I am always reading- feel free to give me suggestions. I’ll give anything a chance. I grew up in the Midwest and still delight at the first hint of a thunderstorm.
I want to help others find their place in the Monroe community, and I’m excited about what we can do together this year!
Secretary Nicole VanderPloeg

Hi! I’m Nicole, and I am the Secretary for the Monroe PTA. This is my 5th year serving on the Monroe PTA executive committee and I am really looking forward to another amazing year!
I love music and have a versatile (ie: totally random) playlist. I try to go to at least 6 concerts a year! Fall is my favorite season, but I hate pumpkin spice anything. I once raced reindeer and met the real Santa in the North Pole.
VP Communication Cristina Masterjohn

My name is Cristina, and I am CO-VP of Communications for your James Monroe PTA. This is my second time as a parent at MOE – I’m thrilled to finally have the opportunity to get involved on a deeper level. The work that the PTA does, really enriches our kiddos school experience, and I am a proud member.
I love to spend time with my family, snuggle with my orange tabby, and sign karaoke with my friends. My passions are antiquing, interior design, gardening, music – and too much coffee. And one could say that I’m crazy for Christmas, since I have 14 Christmas trees in my house.
VP Communication Archana Shekhar

My name is Archana. I am a dedicated mother to my 7 year old and an active member of the PTA since 2024. I am passionate about education and the arts — especially dance. I am excited for the opportunity to see our hard work with the PTA, benefit the children of James Monroe.
VP Membership Linda Black

Hi, I’m Linda and I am proudly serving my first year on the Monroe PTA board heading up Memberships. I have had three students attend Monroe Elementary, two who have moved on and a daughter currently in fourth grade. I joined the PTA to advocate and be an active participant in my child’s school experience.
Fun facts about me? I was born and raised in Florida. We once owned three 100 plus pound Presa Canario’s, a white Doberman Pinscher and currently a French Bulldog named Luna. I am a huge fan of True Crime
and I went to school with one of the Real Housewives
VP Volunteers Amy Colson

My name is Amy, and 25/26 is my first year on the board, for the Monroe Elementary PTA. I am so excited to be more involved with my child’s education. I am the proud mother of a hiCap 2nd grader. I love to read, go for walks and enjoy new gummy candys!
VP Fundraising Brenda Bloczynski

Hi, I’m Brenda! I’m excited to be serving my second year as Fundraiser Coordinator at Monroe. I have two boys, one in second grade and one who just started middle school.
I love sewing, painting with watercolors, and spending time with friends. I enjoy trying new restaurants and exploring different ethnic foods, and I have an axolotl named Pixel (he’s speckled, hence the name!).
I joined the PTA because I love being part of my kids’ education, getting a peek into their school world, supporting the amazing staff, and helping make a difference at Monroe.
